wanna see a magic trick? goof proof brow pencil + Benefit brow pre-launch party

As most of you will already know, Benefit NZ launched their gorgeous new eyebrow products on Friday the 22nd of July but they also held an event the night before at Ballantynes in Christchurch where customers were invited to buy the products a night early and be “the first”. Of course, Smith and Caugheys had a flash sale on the 9th of July where they made the new products available early so we weren’t exactly the first, but the event was fun nonetheless. Now let’s get down to business:

Goof Proof Brow Pencil

This was probably the product I was most excited about (I’ve already talked about how us poor Kiwis are taunted by the American beauty bloggers with their early releases) because I’d been watching my gorgeous friend Rose in Houston rave about it on her snap chat for months. It’s an automatic style brow pencil that features a uniquely angled tip that is (according to the cute Bene babe that did my brows at the event) “perfectly shaped to fit your brows”. Because it’s so uniquely shaped, that sharp edge is supposed to stay sharp so you can draw little hairs and shade in the rest with the thicker part.

Initially you would think that the sharp edge wasn’t gonna stay sharp but surprisingly it does hold up pretty well, you’re not gonna get a super precise line but they do have another product called Precisely, My Brow Pencil which I believe is designed for that effect however I haven’t tried it. The Goof Proof Brow Pencil boasts “super easy” application and 12 hour, waterproof wear. It is quick to apply, easy to build up colour, and it lasts the day fairly well. I wore it yesterday and put it on around 11am-ish and didn’t take it off until past midnight but it was still sittin pretty. Like I said, it’s not super precise so if you like a carved out Instagram-brow I don’t think this is the product for you, but IG brows are going out of fashion in favour of Cara Delevingne style natural brows anyway and it definitely delivers on that. You can get Goof Proof Brow Pencil at the Ballantynes Benefit counter for $44 or online from Smith and Caugheys for $42 but shipping is about $5 and you have to wait 3-5 days.

Ka Brow! Cream-gel brow colour

I already posted a review of this product about a month ago when I got a sample from my insider Bene babe, but I have a few thoughts now I’m the proud owner of a full size product. I got a shade darker than I actually wanted but my girl recommended this shade on the night and I kinda just rolled with it.

If you like Anastasia Beverly Hills dipbrow pomade you’ll probably like this, it’s a fairly similar product. It has a fantastic rich colour that is super pigmented like a gel liner or something and it dries as you apply so you have to move pretty quickly but it does make it very long lasting. I think it’s great for people like me who had tweezers in high school and are now sporting a super sparse tail. Initially when I used this, I remember thinking it was really smooth and buildable. The first time I dipped my brush in I was like “ooh!” cause it was so soft and creamy. The instructions say “glide [brush] across cream gel and stroke a tiny amount on brows” but lemme tell you this, there was no “gliding”. I don’t know if it’s the cold here in Christchurch or if the lid wasn’t quite airtight but the product was quite stiff, it was more like digging at the product to get a decent amount on the brush. Still, if I hadn’t already had that tantalising taste a month ago I wouldn’t know any better and expectations aside it’s a really, really good product. It is quite expensive at NZ$44 for 3g of product especially when you compare it to Anastasia Beverly Hills dipbrow pomade which is NZ $25.06 on Beauty Bay for 4 grams. You can buy Ka Brow from the Benefit counter at Ballantynes or online from Smith & Caugheys.

(P.S. my brows are desperate for a threading, don’t hold it against me!)
As always, this post is entirely my own opinion and nobody paid me to write this. I do not represent anyone or anything. I paid full price for these products and my review is completely honest. Integrity first, homeskillet.
